Task Description
Provide support for the SA-B Exploration Research Quality team. Perform quality assurance oversight/ insight over the processing of ISS hardware, payloads, and experiments. 
Specific tasks may include but not limited to:

  • Inspections, surveillance, and requirement compliance while overseeing fabrication, assembly, and test and checkout of aerospace flight hardware
  • Acceptance (procurement) of flight hardware, receiving inspections, and review of acceptance data packs
  • Support to Design and Product baselines.
  • Oversight of payload simulator testing, select experiments, and team activities.

Desired experience: 

  • Experience in quality assurance processing activities to include hardware and experiment inspections and surveillance.
  • Experience performing audits, compliance and requirements assessments.
  • KSC Experience desirable;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills required.  Must be able to interact and develop excellent working relationships with various customers, peers, and management within and outside of KSC S&MA.

+ System Safety Engineer for GMD located at VAFB

POSITION: System Safety Engineer for GMD located at VAFB

Primary Position Requirements:

Job Description

Support MDA Safety by providing expertise in systems integration, risk assessment, system safety, range safety, and operations safety.  This task encompasses operations, integration, test, system safety analyses and risk assessments, and industrial hygiene and bioenvironmental hazards, This task requires working knowledge of Missile Defense Agency (MDA), DoD, and OSHA standards.

Provide support to the MDA System Safety effort at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.  Primary tasks include lead safety engineer in support of the GMD program.  Provide backup support to MDA/QSH in support of other MDA programs resident at VAFB.  Ensure compliance to EWR 127-1/AFSPCMAN 91-710, OSHA, Cal-OSHA, ANSI, etc.  Specific tasks include procedure reviews; onsite safety monitoring; requirements implementation; support to safety working groups; support test readiness reviews; review of safety documentation such as SARs, RSDPs, waivers and deviations, etc.  Conduct safety risk assessments for program director approval as well as safety analyses for potential hazards identified.  Provide safety training for onsite as well as visiting MDA personnel.  Support facility working groups by evaluating work plans and accident prevention plan s (APPS) and review implementation documentation.  Coordinate with Weapons Safety for any explosives requirements implementation and with the base fire department for any fire related issues.

Being a Self-starter is mandatory.  Will be supporting as the only System Safety Engineer for GMD at VAFB with support to MDA/QSH. 

Work entails 40 hours per week.

A government (secret level) security clearance is REQUIRED for this position.

Job Description – Flight and Ground Test Support for the MDA Safety division

  • For each test, review Program/Element safety risk assessments applicable to that test
  • Prepare Integrated-Level System Safety Risk Assessment Memorandums for Record for each test to document program’s/elements’ completion of safety risk assessments and document the system-level residual risk for inadvertent launch
  • If a mission’s execution schedule will exceed MDA’s work time restrictions, assist the System Mission Manager in generating a work time restriction waiver package, and routing the completed package up to QS Director for concurrence
  • Assist in revising and updating MDA’s safety policies, procedures and instructions
  • Participate as a QS Safety representative in mission planning meetings, Joint Analysis Team meetings, Mission Execution Team Working Groups
  • Serve as backup QS representative for the Test Baseline Working Group
  • Assist in defining control room seating and voice communication requirements for QS Safety personnel
  • Assist in defining QS Safety personnel requirements for Operation Requirements documents, and providing them to the requirements POC
  • When required, deploy for missions to monitor overall team health for signs of fatigue, and to monitor test activities for potential safety issues

+ Explosives Safety Siting Team Lead

Job Title:  Explosives Safety Siting Team Lead

Employment Type:  Initially part-time as needed (position available immediately) with flexible schedule.  Upon award of an anticipated Navy contract, the position would transition to full-time work with a set schedule.

APT is seeking a mid-level Explosives Safety Siting Team Lead to support explosives safety site planning projects in support of an anticipated Navy contract.  The Team Lead is accountable for managing and overseeing most aspects of site planning for one or more Navy installations simultaneously.  This is a highly visible position with direct interaction with multiple levels of Navy customers.  In this role, the Team Lead directs a group of 2-4 employees in the use of various site planning tools and methods.  The Team Lead is responsible for leading site visits to acquire data and provide training and reports to the Navy customers. This position will also provide opportunities for business development of additional work for the Navy. Accountabilities also include the internal coordination and management of resources required for the successful and timely execution of projects.  This position is for APT headquarters in Huntsville, AL and reports directly to the EST Division Manager and requires a high degree of leadership, collaboration, discretion, and professionalism.  Relocation to Huntsville, AL is not required until the position transitions to full-time work.

Required Skills:

  1. Safety experience, ideally explosives safety
  2. Demonstrated ability to manage schedules and financial aspects of multiple projects simultaneously
  3. Ability to communicate with APT management on the status of multiple projects and provide guidance on how to meet contract requirements
  4. Ability to lead a group of APT employees in the office and in the field during site investigations and other on-site support situations
  5. Experience with US DoD Quantity-Distance (QD) site planning
  6. Experience with the Explosives Safety Siting (ESS) Software
  7. Good people skills are required, as this person will be expected to interact directly with customers and working group participants, as well as with other APT personnel
  8. Ability to review monthly project budgets to ensure work efforts are on track and accounting is correct
  9. Ability to create, track and report on business development opportunities
  10. Demonstrated quality writing/editing skills for reports and other communications
  11. Position may require access to sensitive information, therefore a US DoD Security Clearance (or the ability to get one) may be necessary.

+ System Safety Position

System Safety position located at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Lompoc, CA.  Candidate must have an active security clearance and a minimum of a 4-year technical degree in a related field or 15+ years of experience in a related field. Responsibilities include review and oversight of hazardous procedures, movement of large rocket motors, OSHA inspections, familiarity of range safety requirements. Ability to support temporary activities at locations around the country. Prefer a candidate with knowledge of MDA and GBI activities and components.

+ THAAD PDSS Lab Manager/System Admin

POSITION: Senior Engineer

Develop and maintain lab environment including reporting, event notifications and actions, software updates, service packs, and patching. Assist in managing and operating an IT infrastructure to include VMware, Servers, NAS devices, Windows, Solaris, Linux, Switches, Routers, Firewalls, and others. Monitor databases and application servers utilization including data storage management, performance metrics and service levels. Ensure all users meet the requisite clearances, authorization, need‐to‐know, and security responsibilities before granting access to the IS.

Create, change, and delete user accounts per request. Ensure log files and audits are maintained and reviewed for all systems and that authentication (for example, password) policies are audited for compliance. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

Maintain an awareness of trends within the technology industry. Configure and maintain all IS hardware to include servers, workstations, networking equipment.

Manage the purchasing of new and replacement hardware and software.  Perform troubleshooting on all IS systems and networks. Document and maintain lab hardware and software lists, lab network topology diagrams and Ports, Protocols and Services registries. Maintain appropriate DoD 8570 certification and training requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; Experience (4 additional years of degree + defined years’ experience) may be used in lieu of degree.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) Compliance, Risk Management Framework (RMF).

ENTERPRISE MISSION ASSURANCE SUPPORT SERVICE (EMASS) Experience with vulnerability scanning tools (ex. ACAS, Retina, SCAP, etc.).

+ Software Airworthiness Personnel

APT is seeking a Software Engineer to support the airworthiness process of the Blackhawk rotary wing aircraft.  Candidate will provide independent software airworthiness assessments of the software development lifecycle artifacts.  Candidate must have knowledge of full lifecycle system and software engineering processes; Experience in software development process for safety and mission critical software components.  Candidate must be proactive and a team player. Ability to work multiple tasks as assigned.  Successful candidate must have excellent communication skills.

Required Skills:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical degree.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle process.
  • Obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance.
  • Travel may be required.

+ Software Test Engineers

The Apache PPSS project has immediate opening for 2 or 3 Software Test Engineers.

  • The candidate will be performing Software Test and Integration tasks for the Apache helicopter Operational Flight Program.
  • Hands on abilities to work on flight aircraft as well as in a laboratory environment. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to synthesize customer contractual needs & requirements into system test solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. 
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, test procedures and test reports.
  • Provide testability analysis of the requirements and an evaluation for completeness of the test program for all levels of testing. 
  • Generate test scripts in support of system integration and performance testing. 
  • Work with software developers as needed to help diagnose and identify the root cause of problems found during software integration. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret.
  • BS Degree in Electrical / Software Engineering plus 7+ years relevant experience.
  • Must be proficiency in C/C++ programming, Ada is a plus.

+ Software Safety Engineer

Job description: Participate as a team member of Software Safety team for a critical DoD Weapon System program. As a member of the team work alongside other contractors performing software safety and V&V analysis of requirements, design, code, and testing. Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist the SED government Lead by providing weekly and periodic status reports and technical reports as requested.
  • Review software requirements, design, and verification analyses, documentation and or models for compliance with software safety qualification standards and requirements.
  • Also review software source code, code generation processes and models, build procedures, etc. for compliance with software safety qualification standards and requirements.
  • Participate in IPTs, software design reviews, code reviews, test plan reviews, test report reviews, and problem report reviews, as requested.

Qualifications, experience or knowledge in the following areas are essential:

  • Software development or V&V analysis experience with safety critical software
  • Ability to express engineering findings orally and in written technical reports
  • Familiarity with software development/lifecycle IEEE 12207, MIL-STD-498, etc.

+ Program Manager - DC Area

Position requires responsible, motivated professional who will be able to work remotely with APT personnel in HSV. Position will coordinate and manage APT activities in the DC area, and must be able to travel locally regularly (and other travel occasionally). Good writing and presentation skills required.  Engineering or other technical degree preferred.  Background in explosives safety or effects/consequence modeling would be a significant factor.
