+ NASA KSC General Engineer B (Safety & Quality Engineering Experience)

Department: Kennedy Space Center SA-GSDO Program (SA-F)
Period: Starts May 1, 2017

Labor Grade: General Engineer B
Full-time: 40 hrs/week

Education: BS Engineering or Science field
Experience:  10 years in engineering integration, safety and quality engineering/ops, verification and validation experience highly desirable

Task Description:
Provide support for the SA-F GSDO Safety and Quality team.  A liaison between GSDO S&MA and GSDO engineering and operations. Support GSDO subsystem Verification and Validation (V&V) efforts; Develop GSDO program risk-based products/hazard assessments/analyses.

Desired Experience: 
Experience utilizing system safety engineering principles/processes. Quality engineering expertise in conducting risk-based assessments, audits, nonconformance trending, and technical engineering assessments.  Develop, implement, and analyze performance of quality controls in design of products, processes and services; Experience in implementing process control methods such as surveillance plans, critical control point identification, and work instruction development and validation. 

Travel: Hands on position may require travel occasionally. 

+ Program Manager - DC Area

Position requires responsible, motivated professional who will be able to work remotely with APT personnel in HSV. Position will coordinate and manage APT activities in the DC area, and must be able to travel locally regularly (and other travel occasionally). Good writing and presentation skills required.  Engineering or other technical degree preferred.  Background in explosives safety or effects/consequence modeling would be a significant factor. Prior FBI or ATF work experience desired. Candidates need a good work ethic, and able to multitask.  Some travel required.  Position at times requires field work.  Anticipated start date:  May 2017

+ Software Test Engineers

The Apache PPSS project has immediate opening for 2 or 3 Software Test Engineers.

  • The candidate will be performing Software Test and Integration tasks for the Apache helicopter Operational Flight Program.
  • Hands on abilities to work on flight aircraft as well as in a laboratory environment. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to synthesize customer contractual needs & requirements into system test solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. 
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, test procedures and test reports.
  • Provide testability analysis of the requirements and an evaluation for completeness of the test program for all levels of testing. 
  • Generate test scripts in support of system integration and performance testing. 
  • Work with software developers as needed to help diagnose and identify the root cause of problems found during software integration. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret.
  • BS Degree in Electrical / Software Engineering plus 7+ years relevant experience.
  • Must be proficiency in C/C++ programming, Ada is a plus.
  • Must be proficiency in scripting languages (such as Perl, bsh/ksh/csh).
  • Must be comfortable working in Windows and Linux/Unix.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as Software Test Engineer.
  • Shall have a full understanding of all aspects of aircraft testing to include requirements definition, instrumentation, data processing, test planning, test conduct and test reporting.

+ System Safety Personnel

APT is seeking System Safety personnel (2 positions) to support the U.S Army’s Precision Fires Rockets & Missiles Program Office.

Qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Safety Engineering, or another related technical field.  MS is desired.
  • 5+ years’ experience providing System Safety engineering and/or advisory support.
  • Proficiency with MS Office© (Word©, Excel©, PowerPoint©, Outlook©).
  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills, good communication skills, and ability to interact well in group meeting/working environments with team members, development organizations and customers.
  • Experience with DoD Systems Development process is desired.  Particular experience with field artillery and/or major armaments development, testing, fielding, and/or production is also a plus.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET Security Clearance.  Current clearance is a big discriminator.

+ Software Airworthiness Personnel

APT is seeking a Software Engineer to support the airworthiness process of the Blackhawk rotary wing aircraft.  Candidate will provide independent software airworthiness assessments of the software development lifecycle artifacts.  Candidate must have knowledge of full lifecycle system and software engineering processes; Experience in software development process for safety and mission critical software components.  Candidate must be proactive and a team player. Ability to work multiple tasks as assigned.  Successful candidate must have excellent communication skills.

Required Skills:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical degree.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle process.
  • Obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance.
  • Travel may be required.

Desired Skills: Potential candidate should be familiar with Civil and Military airworthiness qualification requirements (e.g. DO-178, DO-254, MIL-STD-882, SAE ARP 4754, and SAE 4761) Working knowledge of DOORS and Model Based Development tools are desired.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Ability to develop key corporate growth areas and develop new business aligned with the company’s growth strategy.
  • Significant experience with, or knowledge of the Federal Agencies, DoD and/or NASA Space, Missile Defense, Weapon System, Munitions, explosives development, operations, and sustainment markets.
  • Manage opportunity pipeline and continually seek out new business opportunities for the company.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement key account and marketing plans designed to maintain and increase existing business, identify, and capture new opportunities.

The knowledge/skills required for an SCE team member are:

  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience working as an Embedded Software Engineer
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineer or higher
  • 5 or more years’ experience developing software in the Ada and C/C++ languages
  • Experience using Vxworks, Sun Solaris UNIX, Apex/Tornado IDE suites
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-1553B, Perl
  • Secret or higher security clearance

+ Software Safety Engineer

Job description: Participate as a team member of Software Safety team for a critical DoD Weapon System program. As a member of the team work alongside other contractors performing software safety and V&V analysis of requirements, design, code, and testing. Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist the SED government Lead by providing weekly and periodic status reports and technical reports as requested.
  • Review software requirements, design, and verification analyses, documentation and or models for compliance with software safety qualification standards and requirements.
  • Also review software source code, code generation processes and models, build procedures, etc. for compliance with software safety qualification standards and requirements.
  • Participate in IPTs, software design reviews, code reviews, test plan reviews, test report reviews, and problem report reviews, as requested.

Qualifications, experience or knowledge in the following areas are essential:

  • Software development or V&V analysis experience with safety critical software
  • Ability to express engineering findings orally and in written technical reports
  • Familiarity with software development/lifecycle IEEE 12207, MIL-STD-498, etc.
  • Familiarity with one or more software languages; C, C++, C#, Ada,

Experience or knowledge in the following areas are highly desirable:

  • Familiarity / Experience with performing /evaluating:
    • Government technical reports
    • Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs) (MIL-STD-882E task 208 or ARP 4761
    • PHL, PHA, System and Subsystem Hazard analyses (882E)
    • System safety risk assessments (SSRA)
    • Safety Assessment Reports (SARs)
    • Safety Change Impact Analyses of changes/deviation/waivers
    • Fault Tree Analyses
    • FMEAs
  • Familiarity with the Open Group Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) standard
  • Experience with Model Based Software Development, familiarity with Matlab and Simulink, Rhapsody, DOORS, SCADE, etc.;
  • Familiarity with software development and evaluation tools such as: McCabe, LDRA, Coverity, Klocwork, Polyspace, Understand, etc.;
  • Familiarity with systems engineering development processes;
  • Familiarity with STAMP/STPA;
  • Familiarity with Civil and military airworthiness qualification and Software Safety requirements, such as: DO-178B, JSSSH, DO-278, DO-254, IEC 61508, MIL-STD-882, AMCOM REG 385-17, SAE ARP 4754, and SAE ARP 4761.

Other Critical Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to work as part of a diverse contractor team (multiple companies);
  • Motivated and customer focused with a drive for quality technical results.

Required Education experience:

BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering Systems Engineering, or other scientific field.

+ Safety Personnel

Qualifications: All safety personnel shall have at least four years of applicable experience in at least three of the four functional areas listed below.

  • Large missile, space vehicle, rocket, torpedo, prelaunch, launch, post-launch operations and/or recovery operations.
  • System safety hazard analysis and/or design, or research and development testing of ordnance, explosives, other types of munitions, pyrotechnics, cryogenic, toxic/hypergolic propellants, high pressure gases, radioactive materials, or other hazardous systems/components.
  • Nuclear safety and/or ionizing/non-ionizing radiation safety hazard analysis and/or design, or research and development testing.
  • Preparation and/or review and approval of hazardous operating procedures for space vehicle, missile, and/or weapons systems.

Personnel who prepare or provide detailed safety engineer review of launch complex safety analyses, reports, documentation, and hazardous procedures shall have a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and a CSP or PE.

APT seeks engineers, scientists, analysts, and software developers. Current expertise in the following areas is sought:

  • System Safety Engineering - Requires a Bachelor of Science degree and experience in system safety as applied to military systems.
  • Risk Analysis - Requires a Bachelor of Science degree and experience in conducting quantitative risk analysis for large aerospace programs.
  • Software Safety Engineering - Applicant should be familiar with system safety, software development, and software testing.
  • Range Safety - Background in flight safety analysis, risk analysis, or range safety systems. Education in probability, statistics, mathematics, or aeronautical engineering is preferable.
