BREEZE AERMET Pro

BREEZE AERMET PRO, the complete meteorological preprocessor for AERMOD. AERMET PRO processes raw, hourly meteorological data files (NWS or ADMS format) through three distinct modules, called stages. Stage 1 extracts and quality assesses weather station data and, for international locations, computes mixing height parameters based on surface data. Stage 2 merges relevant data files into a single file. Stage 3 processes the merged file and calculates hourly values of certain planetary boundary layer (PBL) parameters for use in AERMOD.

To make these calculations, AERMET requires three site-specific land-use parameters to be specified:

Surface roughness length... the theoretical height above the ground where the wind speed goes to zero. Bowen ratio... a measure of the ground moisture available for evaporation. Albedo... a measure of how reflective a surface is to solar radiation.
Because the land use parameters can vary spatially, AERMET allows up to 12 sectors with differing land-use parameters to be defined for a given facility. Furthermore, the land-use parameter for a given sector can vary temporally--either monthly, seasonally, or annually.

Stages 1, 2, and 3 of AERMET are included in BREEZE AERMET PRO. Stage 3 is also included as a tool in BREEZE AERMOD SUITE so that merged data files purchased from vendors, such as BREEZE, can be processed with site-specific land-use parameters.
