Multi-Scenario Processor

BREEZE ISC3-MSP and AERMOD-MSP - High performance regulatory modeling.

Complete with the expert technical support you expect and need by those who have been developing models for nearly 20 years.

Overview:

BREEZE ISC3 and AERMOD Multiple Scenario Processor (MSP) eliminates the need to perform repeated modeling runs while evaluating multiple emissions scenarios. The calculation method used by BREEZE MSP provides the same accuracy as a full air quality dispersion modeling analysis without the time and expense associated with performing multiple modeling runs and post-processing.

BREEZE ISC and AERMOD MSP takes advantage of the models linear relationship between emission rates and concentrations to predict, with a single model execution, the concentrations at all receptors for multiple modeling emissions scenarios. The accuracy of these modeling scenarios is equivalent to the results obtained by separate model executions for each scenario, but is generated in significantly less time than individual models run in succession.

BREEZE MSP represents a significant improvement over the traditional application of ISCST3 and AERMOD models for performing complex modeling with multiple emissions scenarios. For simple models with 30 sources the time saving for performing 30 emissions scenarios is over nine hours of computational time. The more complex a dispersion model becomes, or the greater the number the emissions scenarios, the more time will be saved by using BREEZE MSP versions.

BREEZE ISC and AERMOD MSP store emission rates for up to 200 pollutants and applies them appropriately when calculating receptor concentrations. The user has the option of making a model run of all the pollutants stored in the database, a subset of the pollutants, or a single pollutant.

ISC and AERMOD MSP Output

The structure of the ISC and AERMOD MSP output text file remains the same as that for single pollutant runs.

In addition to the standard ISCST3 output file, the BREEZE ISC and AERMOD MSP model is capable of generating output of the following types of standard ISCST3 external output files for each emission scenario modeled:

POSTFILE - The POSTFILE contains concentration results for each source group and averaging period combination specified by the user for each receptor modeled. They are often used in post-processing programs and can be formatted as either binary or ASCII text.

PLOTFILE - The PLOTFILE contains the user specified High values for each source group and averaging period combination for each receptor modeled. This file is often used to generate contour or surface plots of the 1st through 6th high concentration results.

MAXFILE - The MAXFILE contains concentrations that occurred over a user-specified concentration at each receptor modeled. At the time of writing, only a single threshold concentration could be specified. A future version of BREEZE ISC-MSP will allow the user to assign a threshold concentration to each emission scenario modeled. These threshold concentrations will be used for each emission scenario modeled.

TOXFILE - The TOXFILE option will generate a file for use with the EPA post-processing program Toxic Modeling System Short-Term (TOXST). The TOXST program addresses the problem of estimating expected exceedances of specified short-term health effects thresholds in the vicinity of continuous and intermittent toxic releases. Although the current version of TOXST from the EPA is not compatible with ISCST3, Trinity has created a version that is compatible with the latest version of ISCST3. This output file however, is not compatible with the ISCMSP unless the model is run in single pollutant mode.

Trinity's BREEZE ISCST3, AERMOD and their MSP versions contain additional post-processing files that are unique to its version of BREEZE. These are used with productivity tools designed by Trinity and integrated into the BREEZE ISC SUITE.

RAWFILE - The RAWFILE format is a file used by the GIS mapping and contouring features in BREEZE and by the BREEZE GRAPHICS productivity tool. This file contains concentrations for user specified High values for each source group and averaging period combination for each receptor and pollutant modeled. This information is used with the BREEZE Graphics tool which is used in conjunction with third party contouring software to generate base maps that can be used to display receptor concentrations with respect to facility boundary, sources, and buildings.

PERCENT - BREEZE PERCENT files are compressed versions of the standard ISCST3 and AERMOD POSTFILEs. BREEZE ISC and AERMOD MSP has an option to generate these files that are often up to 95% smaller than binary POSTFILEs containing the same information. The BREEZE productivity tool, PERCENT uses this file to determine the maximum percentile concentration of a pollutant for a particular averaging period. The output from PERCENT can be used with BREEZE Graphics to produce contour plots of percentile concentrations. Any tool that post-processes POSTFILEs could be modified to use the multi-pollutant compressed PERCENT files.
