Explosives Effects & Consequence Modeling & Testing

Engineering Analysis

APT’s engineering expertise encompasses the development of probabilistic risk assessment software tools such as IMESAFR. We provide Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRAs) for commercial explosives operation customers seeking variances or risk reduction options. Our services also include risk management consultations, explosives accident simulation and analysis, test support, and test and modeling comparisons.

Modeling & Simulation

APT excels at creating high-fidelity simulations of explosive detonations and modeling debris trajectories. These applications can be used to model accidental explosive events or as part of a risk management plan to improve safety at explosive operations.

Testing

APT is integrally involved in the international explosives safety testing community.

Explosive Testing Sites

  • Woomera Prohibited Area, South Australia
  • Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, California, USA
  • Redstone Test Center, Alabama, USA
  • Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, USA
  • Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC), New Mexico, USA
  • Utah Test and Training Range, Utah, USA

Test Recommendation. APT is deeply embedded in the international explosives safety testing community and is aware of both completed tests and those currently in planning stages. If data are lacking, APT knows what tests to conduct or propose to resolve the problem.

Test Planning. APT can plan testing at various test sites around the world. We collaborate with multiple communities to help share the test costs, if desired.

Test Coordination & Consensus Building. This is APT’s strong suit and an area where customer satisfaction is at its highest.

Site Investigation. APT can determine the best available, capable, experienced, and cost-effective site for the customer’s needs and match the range to the test.

Test Plan Development. APT writes comprehensive test plans tailored to the required testing. These plans can be as formal as desired by the test site or the customer.

Test Execution and Support. APT provides on-site support to help conduct the test, ensuring that it is executed in accordance with the test plan and the customer’s needs.

Debris Recovery. APT can supply the manpower, from a single subject matter expert to a full data recovery crew, to ensure that test results are not left at the test site.

Data Cataloging. APT is experienced in cataloging test results, from detailed piece-by-piece analysis of debris to simple summary descriptions. Importantly, these results are cataloged in a format suitable for introduction into a software model.

Data Analysis. APT is renowned in the international community for turning raw data into state-of-the-art algorithms.

Test Report. APT can completely write or assist in the development of a comprehensive test report that includes all relevant data.
