A-P-T Research, Inc., offers comprehensive training courses on valuable explosives safety tools. Our training offerings include IMESAFR, SAFER, ESS, and Explosives Safety courses.
IMESAFR Software & Training
Institute of Makers of Explosives Safety Analysis for Risk (IMESAFR) is a probabilistic risk assessment tool used to calculate risk to personnel from explosives facilities. This tool supplements the longstanding American Table of Distances (ATD) and other Quantity Distance (QD) systems. IMESAFR determines a level of safety based on risk, considering factors such as explosives quantity, distance, donor structure, activity at the donor, and the structure of exposed sites.
IMESAFR Demo Video: The video below provides a brief overview of running IMESAFR.
System Requirements: IMESAFR v2.3 is compatible with Windows® 7, 8, 10, and 11. An application installer for OS X, Linux, older versions of Windows®, and other operating systems may be available upon request. Click here for a list of people who have received a certificate of training and training number.
As a condition of purchase, all users of IMESAFR must complete training from APT on the usage of the code. To become a certified user, proficiency must be demonstrated at/after the conclusion of training. Access to the AN engine in IMESAFR requires attendance at the add-on AN module training.

SAFER Software & Training
SAFER is a software tool that performs quantitative risk analyses to determine risk to people from a potential explosion site (PES) by conducting a sequential calculation of probability of event, explosives effects, and personnel exposure.
SAFER Training Course:
- Duration: 2 days
- Hours: 8 hours per day (16 classroom hours total)
- Content: Mixed lecture and discussion
- Requirements: Participants need a laptop with administrative rights to install the software and run reports.
Contact Information: For more information about SAFER training, contact us at safertraining@apt-research.com or 256.327.3373.
ESS Training
Do you have an interest in a software tool that will help you more effectively manage your explosives program? The Explosives Safety Siting (ESS), also known as Automated Site Planning (ASP), is designed to assist in managing a more efficient and effective program. While ESS/ASP primarily generates Explosives Safety Site Plans (ESSP), it is also a great tool for generating risk assessments, planning for construction projects, and managing Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation (HERO) programs.
ESS Training Course:
- Content: Learn ESS/ASP from the basic level or sharpen your skills.
- Requirements: Ensure operable ESS software, including the ArcGIS license, is installed and active on the participant’s laptop. APT does not provide hardware/software to students.
Contact Information: For more information about ESS training, contact us at es@apt-research.com or 256.327.3373.
